An Introduction to International Negotiation

This textbook provides a comprehensive introduction to the international negotiation system - its key elements and processes, what major issues and challenges it faces, and its impacts on international relations. Bertram I. Spector has 50 years of experience conducting and directing research, training, and technical assistance programs internationally, specializing in the international negotiation field. He is the Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of an international peer-reviewed academic journal, International Negotiation: A Journal of Theory and Practice, and was its founding Editor-in-Chief for 28 years. He directed many research projects and implemented practical programs in over 40 countries to enhance negotiation and good governance policies. As the Cold War ended, he served as the Project Director of the Processes of International Negotiation (PIN) Program, based in Austria at the time. He is the author of International Negotiation and Good Governance: A Researcher-Practitioner's Perspective (2024), The Dynamics of International Negotiation: Essays on Theory and Practice (2023), Curbing Corruption: Practical Strategies for Sustainable Change (2022), and Negotiating Peace and Confronting Corruption: Challenges for Post-Conflict Societies (2011), and co-editor of Getting It Done: Post-Agreement Negotiation and International Regimes (2003), among many other edited books, book chapters, and journal articles.
