Beschreibung

In 1568, an eighty-four-year-old veteran conquistador took up his pen to tell the story that would change two civilizations forever. Bernal Díaz del Castillo, witness and protagonist of the conquest of Mexico, offers us a gripping first-hand account of one of the most extraordinary events in history. THE LIVING TESTIMONY OF THE CONQUEST OF MEXICO, WHERE MYTH MEETS HISTORY This masterpiece of historical chronicles immerses us in the epic battles, the political intrigues and the cultural encounters that marked the fall of the Aztec empire. From the first expeditions to the bloody sieges of Tenochtitlan, Díaz del Castillo captures in extraordinary detail the exploits and hardships of the Spanish conquistadors, as well as the rise and fall of the Mexica civilization. This adaptation preserves the narrative force of the original text while making it accessible to contemporary readers. A unique window into the moment when, in the words of Octavio Paz, "we were all born, no longer Aztecs, no longer Spaniards, but Indo-Hispano-Americans, mestizos". A fundamental work for understanding the conquest of Mexico, this chronicle stands out for its historical and literary value. Written by a soldier who participated in more than one hundred battles, it offers a unique perspective on the events that transformed the American continent. His narrative, as lively as it is detailed, has served as the basis for countless historical studies and continues to fascinate readers from all over the world. This edition adapts the original text for today's audience, maintaining the essence and flavor of the time while making it more accessible to read, making it an essential work for anyone interested in the history of the Americas and the meeting of cultures.
