Beschreibung

This book is a comprehensive collection of research papers presented at the International Conference on Advances in Civil Engineering (ICACE 2024). It showcases the latest advancements and innovations in civil engineering, particularly sustainable design and construction practices. It explores cutting-edge developments in civil engineering with a focus on sustainable planning towards construction through design, which includes optimizing site potential by reducing non-renewable energy consumption and preserving the environment. This ensures sustainability across the life cycle, considering environmental, economic, and social impacts. The papers reflect a diverse range of perspectives and methodologies, offering insights into theoretical approaches and practical applications, thereby engaging the readers in the real-world implications of the research. Through case studies, empirical research, and technical analyses, the book highlights the critical role of sustainability in modern civil engineering projects. It is a valuable resource for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers seeking to understand and implement sustainable practices in the built environment. The proceedings underscore the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration, making the readers feel the breadth and depth of the field and the need for continuous innovation to address the evolving challenges of sustainable development.

Portrait

Scott Arthur is a professor at the Institute for Infrastructure & Environment at Heriot-Watt University in the UK. He began his research career in 1992, working under the supervision of Professor Richard Ashley on a prominent EPSRC-funded project that investigated sediment and pollutant transport within combined sewer networks. After completing this work in Dundee, he moved to a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position at Heriot-Watt University in 1996. In August 2000, he was appointed to a lecturer position at Heriot-Watt University. Since then, his research has been supported by EPSRC, the European Union, the Scottish Government, the Royal Academy of Engineering, SNIFFER, and CREW.
Masato Saitoh is a professor at the Graduate School of Science & Engineering and is currently the Head of the Department of Resilient Society at Saitama University in Japan. After earning his Doctor of Engineering (D.Engg.) from Saitama University in 2001, Dr. Saitoh transitioned to academia as an Assistant Professor at the same institution. Before this, he worked as a researcher at Japan's Railway Technical Research Institute (RTRI). His primary research interests include the dynamic response of the soil-pile system and foundation engineering. Dr. Saitoh has published over 35 international papers in prestigious journals and 17 national journal publications. Based on his research, he also holds 14 patents, including international PCT patents subsidized by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). He received the Governor of Tokyo Award for his invention in 2022. He has led numerous research projects the Japanese Government (JSPS) funded.
Aysha Akter is a professor and the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET) in Bangladesh. She earned a prestigious PhD in Civil and Offshore Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, United Kingdom, in 2011, supported by a competitive James-Watt Scholarship. With 24 years of experience leading academic institutions in Bangladesh and abroad, she has engaged in research activities and taught students from diverse social and cultural backgrounds. Her primary research interests include water resources engineering, riverbank protection through physical and numerical modeling, groundwater engineering, climate change effects on water resources, and coastal engineering. Dr. Akter has 40 national and international journal publications, 52 articles in national and international conferences, 5 book chapters and a research book. Her excellent research in ‘rainwater harvesting’ earned her the prestigious University Grants Commission (UGC) Award in 2015. She also received the best paper award at the 2nd International Conference on Research & Innovation in Civil Engineering (ICRICE 2020).
