Beschreibung

"A Companion to the Second World War 2E offers a collection of 75 historiographic essays which cover the full history of the period leading up to World War II, the events of the War, the immediate aftermath, and the long-term impact of the War on culture and society today. The new edition features 17 new chapters with most other chapters fully revised and updated. Standing as a truly comprehensive work, the Companion begins with a review of the roots of war, tracing relevant preceding events in Europe, the Americas, and East Asia. A new chapter in this section considers the global response to the emergence of fascism. The work then considers the events of the war itself, covering the major military events of the war, strategy in the zones of combat, and the impact of military events on society, featuring new chapters on Ireland and Women, LGBTQ rights during the War, sports and athletics during the War, and global religious responses to the War. The work then covers the situations in regional homelands, with new coverage on the Indigenous Commonwealth, the Philippines, West Africa, the Caribbean, and Japanese Internment. The final section discusses the aftermath and legacies of the war with new coverage on the Tokyo War Crimes, the Origins of the Cold War, Memorials from the War, the impact of the War on the academic studies of morality and ethics, and manifestations of the War in video games, comics, and popular culture"--
