Kokoschka's Doll

Kokoschka's Doll, a novel by which the Portuguese writer Afonso Cruz takes you on an adventure resembling a maze, its lines "parallel and straight, but they meet", and in which he struck the neck of time with the arrow of literature, so that imagination became reality. Didn't Afonso Cruz say through one of the characters in his novel, "There is nothing that literature has not done before"?! The heroes of this novel are not "shadows from the darkness of Plato's cave, but rather they are more perfect than man and better in everything? Because they do not look at the world "through dirty glass"! And at the end of that maze there is no one but you, you who are exhausted by an obsession like the one in the head of "Tomas Popa", you who is homeless in the straits of existence, striving to escape from your contradiction by your quest to unify the conflicting poles: death and life, love and hate, war and peace, good and evil, reality and imagination, voice and echo, past and future, the "I" and the "other"... and especially this other who creates your existence and bears witness to it, and without whom you would not exist.
