Harun al-Rashid

Perhaps Caliph Harun al-Rashid is the most famous and well-known of the Abbasid Caliphs due to the scientific and literary renaissance that took place during his era, as he brought poets, writers and scholars closer to his councils. Foreign trade flourished and political relations between the Caliphate and the kingdoms of Europe grew. Al-Rashid presented precious and interesting gifts to Emperor Charman, which reflected the progress that Arab civilization had reached at that time. Al-Rashid's fame also spread to the West due to what the stories of "One Thousand and One Nights" told about the lavish life of the Caliph's palaces.
