With each contributor selecting the exercises most central to their writing and teaching, The Global Playwriting Workbook offers up a curated catalogue of useful exercises for the aspiring playwright.

Rather than presenting a single 'correct' way of writing plays, the many voices and approaches captured in this book open up many avenues for writers, encouraging them to explore their full potential. The book also posits the need of a transcultural lens while writing and studying playwriting, beyond a Westernizing perspective. The exercises are ordered by theme, making the workbook easy to navigate.

With contributions from playwrights in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia, this is the most international book on playwriting available and brings the traditions of drama in all these countries together for the student playwright.

Ana Cândida Carneiro is an award-winning published playwright from Brazil and Italy. She has a professional degree in playwriting from the Civica Scuola d'Arte Drammatica Paolo Grassi in Milan, and attended workshops with authors such as Simons Stephens, Martin Crimp, Tom Stoppard, April de Angelis, José Sanchis Sinisterra, and the composer Kalheiz Stockhausen. She holds a PhD in Theatre Studies from the Catholic University in Milan focusing on post-dramatic playwriting techniques. Her works were presented in Italy, England, France, Sweden, Finland and South Africa.
