Portrait

Dr. Alessandro Tel (MD, FEBOMFS) is a maxillofacial surgeon working at the University Hospital of Udine. In parallel to his clinical skills, he has developed an internationally recognized expertise in the field of virtual surgical planning and 3D printing applied to maxillofacial surgery. His scientific interests include all applications of virtual planning, intraoperative navigation, augmented reality, robotics; his research is further focused on translational bioscience applied to cranio-maxillo-facial diseases, ranging from molecular oncology to artificial intelligence as well. Dr. Tel's reputation in the field of virtual planning was internationally acknowledged in 2020 when he was honored as the global winner of the Mimics Innovation Awards by Materialise, and the result was repeated in 2022. In recent years, Dr. Tel's research network has grown, with a considerable number of international connections leading to the creation of this Atlas, the first collection of virtual planning procedures in cranio-maxillo-facial surgery. The Atlas is the result of seven years of intensive application of VSP to clinical cases performed by Dr. Alessandro Tel between 2018 and 2025, allowing to explore in detail the widespread adoption of 3D technologies in daily clinical activity.
Prof. Massimo Robiony (MD, FEBOMFS) is a full professor of maxillo-facial surgery. He is the chief of Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery Unit at the University Hospital of Udine, moreover he directs the Head&Neck and Neuroscience Department and the residency program in cranio-maxillo-facial surgery. His interests and surgical skills are broad and range from head and neck surgical oncology, temporomandibular joint disease, dento-facial deformities, facial traumatology, craniofacial malformations, reconstructive surgery.
