Lake Hollingsworth

The waters of Lake Hollingsworth in Lakeland, Florida, have provided much for the inhabitants of the area over the decades. From the early days of the first pioneers in the region through to the students of Florida Southern College, the lake has drawn people to its shores and become a focal point to the residents in the surrounding community. However, over time, the lake has been unable to sustain itself while keeping pace with the demands of those that depended on its waters and resources. Lake Hollingsworth is a collection of works by individuals associated with Florida Southern College?faculty, staff, students and alumni?concerned about the longevity and continued usefulness of the lake. Sarasotan Jeff LaHurd is a history specialist at the Sarasota County History Center, and is on the Sarasota Alliance for Historic Preservation. He has been writing about the city's history for 15 years in Sarasota Magazine, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, the Downtowner and the Planet. A video for which he wrote the script appeared on the History Channel and won the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation's award for communication. This is his seventh book.
