Colombia became a drug country when the mafias overpowered the government and made of this business the most profittable one in the history of the country. The common people, like Pablo Silva, had to suffer and paíd dearly to be able to survive within a totally corrupted country. The big capos took over the government of several cities, such as Cali and Medellín, and declared war on the legal authorities and the pólice force. Colombia does not recover yet from that shameful and dangerous period of its history.
