This book presents a new annotated and translated edition of neoplatonist 3rd-century Greek philosopher Porphyrius' Letter to Marcella. This letter, adressed to his wife, gives a unique account on the ways and principles along which a philosophical life should be led so as to perpetuate itself.

Jean-François Pradeau est professeur de philosophie ancienne à l'Université de Lyon - Jean Moulin. Co-directeur avec Luc Brisson de la traduction française des Traités de Plotin, aux éditions Flammarion (2002-2010), il a notamment publié L'imitation du principe. Plotin et la participation, Paris, 2003.
Jean-François Pradeau is Professor of Ancient Philosophy at the University of Lyon. Co-director with Luc Brisson of the French translation of Plotinus' Enneads (Flammarion, 2002-2010), he published several translations, monographs and articles devoted to the Platonic papers, amongst which L'imitation du principe.
