Some of the biggest names in the industry were based in Chicago: Curtiss, Brach, Tootsie Roll, Leaf, Wrigley, and Mars. At its peak, the Chicago candy industry boasted more than 100 companies employing some 25,000 Chicagoans. Leslie Goddard is a historian and author whose collection of Chicago candy memorabilia includes hundreds of photographs, advertisements, wrappers, and other sweet remembrances. She holds a PhD from Northwestern University, and her earlier book, Remembering Marshall Field's, is also part of Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series.
