Girard chronicles the history of this borough from its early settlement around 1800 to the mid-1900s. Photographs document Girard's relocation on the Erie Extension Canal, the borough's participation as a station on the Underground Railroad, the years when the circus tycoon and humorist Dan Rice called Girard home, the area's trolley history, and the influence of the Battles family.
Linda Lee Hessong Eiler, a Girard resident for more than 20 years, teaches English as a second language and high school English and history. She has served as a teacher and guide at the Hazel Kibler and Battles Museums in Girard. With the assistance of the West County Historical Society, she has compiled this history from the photographic archives at the Hazel Kibler Museum.
