Manuel Villegas specifically analyzes the psychological or experiential dimension of the depressive phenomenon through the testimony of numerous clinical cases to delve deeper into its understanding, prevention, and psychotherapy. Depression is a human experience that can be considered universal and transversal, both in space and time, throughout history. It is characterized by a feeling of emptiness that gives rise to feelings of sadness, hopelessness, worthlessness, and lack of motivation and meaning. Therapy for depression seeks to signify and reverse this experience of emptiness, which leads the person to withdraw from the world and withdraw into themselves in a self-protective movement that, over time, has become chronic and degenerated into impotence. To achieve this, it must promote processes aimed at the profound transformation of the patient into an agent, from powerless to capable, from dependent to autonomous, from submissive to free, from victim of fate to manager of one's own existence.

Manuel Villegas Besora (Barcelona, 1941) es doctor en Psicología y ha sido profesor en la Universidad de Barcelona desde 1974 hasta 2013. Socio fundador y presidente de la Asociación Española de Psicoterapias Cognitivas (ASEPCO) durante más de una década. Director de la Revista de Psicoterapia, desde sus inicios en 1990 hasta 2014. Cuenta también con una larga experiencia como terapeuta individual, de grupos y de pareja.
