Ce livre est un recueil de deux nouvelles écrites par Maurice Leblanc (1864-1941), sur les aventures opposant Arsène Lupin et Herlock Sholmès. Il fait suite au livre précédent, Arsène Lupin : Gentleman-Cambrioleur, notamment le dernier chapitre, Herlock Sholmes arrive trop tard .
Les deux histoires sont publiées pour la première fois à partir de novembre 1906 dans le journal Je sais tout, sous le titre Les Nouvelles Aventures d'Arsène Lupin. Le volume sort le 10 février 1908.
Herlock Sholmès est une copie transparente du célèbre héros de Conan Doyle qui en 1906 connaît déjà un très grand succès en France, ses aventures étant publiées depuis 1902.
Maurice Leblanc (1864-1947) was a French writer best known for creating the fictional character of Arsène Lupin. Lupin's first appearance in Je sais tout, a French periodical, heralded the arrival of the most captivating crook of the literary world. Leblanc would go on to feature his masterful thief in novels and short stories for the next thirty years. Leblanc once said, "Lupin follows me everywhere. He is not my shadow. I am his shadow."
