Qarun's heirs

"Novelist Mohamed Ismail takes us back to the Twelfth and Thirteenth Dynasties of the Pharaohs, tracing the history of Lake Qarun in the Egyptian city of Fayoum. These two dynasties ruled Egypt several hundred years before the Jews left its land, leaving behind riches, as religious and popular history tells us. In this novel, we follow the journey of a group of friends under the skies of Fayoum. Perhaps they will be lucky enough to find what was buried in the depths of the lake, or beneath the city's soil. The treasures of Qarun, or perhaps Amenemhat, or even Ptolemy.
From here, the friends set out, separated by life, then reunited after middle age, carrying childhood memories and their fathers' legacies, both sweet and bitter. The name of the mysterious lake awakened a greed within them. Their intentions diverged, their relationships changed, and hope alone remained the thread that united them. They wanted the treasure, and each of them dreamed of fulfilling it. The deeper they dug in search of the inherited treasure, the more they found within themselves something darker and deeper than the lake.
