After schooling from Delhi's Modern School, Barakhamba Road, he did B.Com (Honours) from the prestigious Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University. He also holds an MBA degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, New Jersey, USA.
A keen sportsman, Ram Sharma captained his school and college field hockey teams. He is a regular practitioner of Kriya Yoga, a form of meditation revived by Shri Paramahansa Yogananda. He lives in Kolkata with his wife Rashmi and has three children.
