The Amnesiad

The three are trapped in a world that suffers longer and longer periods of collective amnesia and delusion. People have fights they can't remember, lovers they can't place. Deaths and disappearances are common. Men fight violently on the streets, and women compete for affection of the few fertile men left, ever fearful of the need to 'trade up'.
The new generation of brothers, or brothen, violently displace the previous, before turning on themselves in a seemingly endless cycle of destruction. As the sex ratio changes towards a disproportionate female to male, the resulting hypergamous society lives in sexual hysteria that paradoxically produces few children.
A mysterious illness grip those who survive the daily onslaught. They sufferers demonstrate an intense fear of going outdoors and social interaction. State of the art technologies are replaced by inferior ones as the economy cannibalizes itself. The achievements and technologies of each generation seemingly inferior to the last, a civilisation reduced to nothing.
On the outside Samantha is a hard working student, who after leaving university moves up the corporate hierarchy. She has exciting holidays and foreign romances, a wealthy London socialite. The seeming normality of her world collapses when she narrowly escapes a rape, which she can't remember clearly. Pressured by the police, she blames an innocent man, who later dies in prison. She acts her violence out, throwing herself into more and more dangerous situations. But Samantha isn't the only one who can't remember...
Her half-brother Christian is trapped in small town England, fighting his own brothers on the streets and reccying abandoned houses. As he hasn't fathered any children, the hostility from his family and lovers grow. No one wants a dyspod in the family. He dreams of escaping to foreign towns, but needs to save up the money.
A former friend and Christian's sister Natalia lives with her twin Gemma in one of the poorer outskirts of London. In Zone E with no job, she runs a risk of ending up in a work gang cleaning the streets for no wage. She dreams of rap music and careers while living on her sister's income.
In day to day life, the survivors meet again under pretexts. The majority of the population, including Samantha, is happy to accept the illusion of order. On TV, everything looks normal.
As the world population drops towards zero , fewer and fewer people are left to meet in the world's few viable cities. The same faces pop up with a regularity that's more than coincidence. Samantha meets a group that thinks it's fixable, but can she avoid the temptation to ignore it all.
An epic that spans from haunted English suburbs, blazing white beaches of Caribbean isles, the darkened streets of Mitteleurope.
