'The Principle of Materiality as a Generally Accepted Accounting Principle': This thesis deals with the scope and content of the principle of materiality under German accounting and tax law. The relevant German and the European Union legal framework (in particular: Directive 2013/34/EU) is analysed in detail. Particular attention is paid to the principle's power to override domestic rules of accounting and tax law. The thesis addresses the problem of defining materiality and highlights how the principle can be applied. It concludes with a proposal for regulation.

Rickard Kelch studierte Rechtswissenschaft in Berlin und London und schloss sein erstes Staatsexamen 2018 ab. Nach einem LL.M.-Studium am Trinity College Dublin begann er im Jahr 2019 mit dem Referendariat am Berliner Kammergericht. 2021 folgte das zweite Staatsexamen. In den Jahren 2022 bis 2024 verfasste er seine Dissertation an der Freien Universität Berlin (Doktormutter: Prof. Dr. Tiedchen). Seit 2022 arbeitet er als Rechtsanwalt in einer Steuer- und Wirtschaftskanzlei in Berlin.
