Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) was a Scottish-born English writer, a classic of neo-romanticism, and an author whose name is forever associated with the flourishing of 19th-century adventure fiction. His work combines the romantic spirit of travel with precise historical detail and vivid psychological portraits of characters. Stevenson is best known for Treasure Island and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but his historical novels also remain outstanding examples of the genre.
