Endocrinology Case Studies

The proposed textbook contains real-life cases of Endocrinology and Metabolism. It is written in a context-based format, highlighting the patient’s presenting problems and demonstrating how to delve into these issues to reach a diagnosis and subsequent management. Students and trainees will learn the approach to evaluating and investigating cases through hands-on training.
The book highlights challenging real cases and contemporary investigations, including genetic or molecular diagnoses where applicable. It promotes an active learning process, as it is designed in an MCQ format with self-solving quizzes to stimulate brainstorming within the reader. It will provoke a desire for further learning as readers engage with the discussions in each chapter. While going through this book, readers will be captivated by the unique way each case unfolds and will not feel bored as they might with a regular textbook.
This book is primarily great asset for Endocrinologists and training residents/fellows in Endocrinology, but it is also uselful for physicians in other specialties, such as Internal medicine Pediatrics and Reproductive Endocrinology.

Dr. Sharmin Jahan graduated with distinction from Dhaka Medical College in 2000. She completed her fellowship in Internal Medicine from the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPS) in 2008. In 2014, she obtained her MD in Endocrinology and Metabolism and received the Prime Minister Gold Medal for securing the highest marks among all subjects in the Faculty of Medicine. Currently, she is a Professor in the Department of Endocrinology at BSMMU, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Dr. Jahan has presented various original works and endocrine-related papers at conferences both domestically and internationally. She has published approximately 80 original articles in esteemed international journals and a significant number in national papers. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in "Endocrine Hypertension" at Monash University, Melbourne, with a fully funded scholarship under Prof. Peter Fuller and Dr. Jun Yang. She runs a world class Endocrine Hypertension Clinic at her institute and have managed a large number of patients within a last few years. She is the principal investigator in research projects on pituitary disorders, particularly Cushing's disease, growth and pubertal disorders, as well as adrenal diseases including endocrine hypertension at her institute. Additionally, she is a co-investigator in studies on gestational diabetes mellitus (DM) and diabetes mellitus in young individuals (under 30 years) at BSMMU. In 2018 Dr. Jahan completed short-term training at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, USA, under Prof. William F. Young, Chair of the Division of Endocrinology, with an emphasis on pituitary, adrenal, and gonadal disorders.
