House Husband: A Contemporary Romance

Ethan Blackwell was a successful real estate agent in the bustling city of Uptown. With his charming smile and keen eye for detail, he effortlessly guided clients through the daunting process of buying and selling homes. Yet, despite his professional triumphs, a part of him felt incomplete, yearning for a deeper connection beyond the transactional nature of his work.
One sunny afternoon, as Ethan was finalizing the paperwork for a luxurious penthouse overlooking the city skyline, he couldn't shake off the feeling of restlessness that had been gnawing at him for weeks. The sound of his pen scratching against the paper echoed in the empty room, a stark reminder of the void he felt within.
With a sigh, he glanced out of the floor-to-ceiling windows and watched as the city buzzed with life below. His thoughts drifted to a time when he believed in love at first sight and soulmates. Was such a connection even possible in a world driven by schedules and spreadsheets?
Just then, a knock on the door interrupted his reverie. Ethan looked up to see his colleague and closest friend, Olivia, poking her head in with a playful smirk on her face. "Hey there, dreamer. What's got you looking so serious?" she teased.
Ethan chuckled, grateful for Olivia's lighthearted presence. "Just contemplating the meaning of life, Liv. You know, the usual," he replied with a grin, setting the papers aside.

I was born in England, but have lived in Southern California for many years. I m now retired and live in the Pacific NW in a little seaside city amongst the giant redwoods and wonderful harbor, almost at the Oregon border. My husband and I have one cat, called Midnight and she is featured in two of my latest Sci-Fi short stories. I love Science Fiction, animals, and trying to help others.
