It was also shortlisted for the 2022 Stanford Dolman Travel Book of the Year award; longlisted for the 2021 Baillie Gifford Prize in Non-Fiction and named a 'book of the year' or 'travel book of the year' by, among others, the Times Literary Supplement, the New Statesman, Newsweek and the Washington Post.
