Rural Democratic Governance

This book explores comprehensively and systematically the concept and path of realizing democratic governance and good governance in rural areas of China, based on a wealth of documents and field investigations, and employing political science, sociology and multi-disciplinary theoretical methods. The aspects investigated include: rural elite participation, rural consultative democracy, governance evaluation, public product supply, social organization cultivation, and rural think tank formation. Further, it assesses rural governance from the perspective of institutional innovation, and offers an outlook on its future in China. Xiuling Zhao, is Senior Researcher of Political Science, Institute of Political Sciences in CASS. Her research interest is rural governance and Chinese democracy politics. She has published "ancient village's institutions and system in China", "general theory of village autonomy in China" and many papers such as "micro-autonomy and grassroots democratic governance"and "deliberative democracy and modernization of rural governance in China". "The wisdom of capital" won the second national youth outstanding achievement award.
