Mario Markus, emeritierter Professor für Physik an der Universität Dortmund, wurde 1944 als Sohn deutschjüdischer Einwanderer in Santiago de Chile geboren. Als 20-Jähriger ging er nach Heidelberg, wo er in Physik promovierte. Zuletzt war er Leiter einer Arbeitsgruppe am Dortmunder Max-Planck-Institut für molekulare Physiologie und veröffentlichte über 160 wissenschaftliche Artikel in internationalen Fachzeitschriften. 222 Juden verändern die Welt ist sein neuntes Buch.
