The quilts, created by award-winning fiber artists and accomplished amateurs, reflect Virginia's 250 years in the US in a remarkable way. These stitched creations use fabric to highlight Virginia's nature, science, history, people, involvement in the Civil War, maps and boundaries, and more. From Ella Fitzgerald to Dave Matthews, from Chapstick to peanut farms, from the Underground Railroad to America's railroad industry, the quilts deliver a new perspective.
In conjunction with the prestigious Virginia Quilt Museum's mission to cultivate and preserve the quilting arts in Virginia, these quilts were expressly made for the US semiquincentennial. Grouped into themes of "Power of Place," "Unfinished Revolutions," "Virginia Experiments," and "We the People," the quilts capture history in a remarkable way, using countless types of fabrics, materials, styles, and interpretations. Now Virginia is not only for lovers but is also for marveling at our quilted history.

Mary Kerr is an American Quilt Society-certified appraiser, quilt curator, and award-winning quilter. She has been a quilt instructor for more than 40 years, and her current lectures and workshops focus on quilt history and the preservation of antique textiles.
