Cosmic Catastrophes contains three short works. In "The Volcano," a devastating earthquake and the eruption of a volcano in Cape Town wreak havoc and chaos. A military coup is prevented. In "The Meteorite," the Olympic Games in Alexandria, Egypt, are disrupted when a large meteorite hits the nearby Mediterranean Sea. Devastation is caused by a monstrous tsunami--despite the warnings of two young South African scientists. A young psychologist saves the South African Olympic team from certain death. Finally, in "The Comet," two young scientists discover a comet and determine that it is headed straight for Cape Town. Laser guns manage to break the comet into pieces at the last moment, and one piece hits a hospital. All kinds of bacteria and viruses in the comet cause an epidemic. The police investigate a case of burglary at the hospital.
