Alexander Ponader studierte Rechtswissenschaften in Augsburg und Washington, DC. Anschließend promovierte er am Lehrstuhl für Strafrecht, Strafprozessrecht, ausländisches Strafrecht und Strafrechtstheorie von Prof. Dr. Luís Greco, LL.M. an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Während der Dissertation war er am Lehrstuhl von Prof. Dr. Gassner in Augsburg, in einer international tätigen Wirtschaftskanzlei und für einen Bundestagsabgeordneten tätig. Sein Referendariat absolvierte er am Kammergericht Berlin.
