'Wry, curious, deeply engaged, often very funny. I loved this book.' Edmund de Waal 'Alex Shulman, as I'm sure you know, was the editor of British Vogue. Now she's written this extremely engaging and enjoyable series of essays - some are memoir, some are social commentary, some are observations - on various aspects of life, e.g. lipstick, clothes, mothers, things you shouldn't say, and including, hooray, a whole great big piece on THE JOY OF BEDS that made me want to high five her. This is a deeply pleasurable book, absolutely perfect for giving to yourself now, and to really pretty much any woman in your life come December.' - India Knight 'Former Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman's guide to living well is full of wisdom and warmth.' Good Housekeeping's Best Books to Give at Christmas 'I love Shulman's honesty and her writing is thoughtful, immediate and completely unaffected. This is the book to have on your bedside table.' - Diana Henry 'A delicious and wise read... giving a wonderful and honest perspective on what actually matters.' - Anya Hindmarch Praise for Clothes...and other things that matter: 'Self-deprecating and stylish, this is sure to become a classic.' - Vanity Fair 'Alexandra Shulman's style is unaffected, immediate and hilariously dry. She's brilliant at observing everyday feelings in a joy-sparking turn of phrase.' - Helena Bonham Carter Red Lipstick * The Mother * A Friendship Wardrobe * Younger and More Modern * The Wedding Dress * Type Two Fun * Roast Chicken * Things You Shouldn't Say * The Other You, The Other Me * The Pleasures of Bed * You Can Always Leave From the Sunday Times-bestselling author of Clothes...and Other Things That Matter, Alexandra Shulman, comes an intriguing blend of memoir, anecdote, social observation and cultural history. Rooted in Alexandra's experiences as a child, a journalist, a young woman always looking for the great love, a mother, and a Vogue magazine editor, the book explores the fabric of daily life alongside thoughts on style and the way we present ourselves - all described with her characteristic wit and incisiveness. Alexandra Shulman left her job as Editor-in-Chief of Vogue in 2017 to embark on a different way of life and while this is in no way a book of self-discovery, it explores the question of things or patterns of behaviour that make us who we are and why they matter.
Alexandra Shulman is a writer and commentator. She was British Vogue's Editor-in-Chief from 1992 to 2017 and was awarded the CBE in the 2018 New Year's Honours list.
