Cantar de Mio Cid

This chanson de geste is considered Spanish literatures first narrative work written in romance language. This song of heroic deeds tells the epic exploits of a Castilian gentleman named Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar. Having lost his honor after being accused of theft, the Cid will spend the final years of his life fighting to regain his honor by conquering the Moor kingdoms to the south of the peninsula.
