Architectures of Weaving

Architectures of Weaving bridges architecture and textile by exploring fiber architectures from the micro scale of biological systems to the macro scale of textile and built structures. Selected case studies, essays, and interviews reflect on cultural practices and materials research through the lens of textile thinking. In the quest for sustainable and resilient approaches that meet the challenges of our time, the book presents fascinating approaches heralding a paradigm shift by working with fibrous materiality: structures become flexible and adaptive, they interact with their environment. The interdisciplinary editorial team weaves together perspectives rooted in architecture, design and humanities: Christiane Sauer bridges architectural practice and textile research as a Professor for Material Design at Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. The relation of art history and design is Mareike Stoll's research focus. Ebba Fransén Waldhör is a textile designer specialized in research, art and scenography. Maxie Schneider is an architect and researches adaptive material systems. Their cooperation in the field of architecture and textiles is based at the Cluster of Excellence "Matters of Activity. Image Space Material" at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin.
