Kariane became an orphan at age 11. As an adult, she founded an association to aid orphaned children around the world.
While on a trip to Moscow to drum up support for an orphanage, her path crosses that of Nina, a musical child prodigy who can barely speak. Katiane instantly feels that she has always known Nina and can't understand why this relationship troubles her so much.
When Nina earns a scholarship to come study in Paris, Katiane hopes it will be an opportunity to see her again. Nina has somehow planted a seed in her soul and Katiane has allowed it to grow.
