Charles John Huffman Dickens was born on 7 February 1812 in Portsmouth, England. He is considered to be one of the greatest writers of the Victorian era. Dickens' literary success started with The Pickwick Papers (1836). His other notable works are Nicholas Nickleby, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations and Hard Times. His books remain popular till date and have been adapted numerous times for stage and the silver screen.
