Perry  received a B.A. summa cum laude from  William Smith College, an M.A. from the University of Washing>ton, and a Ph.D. in Chinese politics from the University of  Michigan (in 1978). She has taught in the Political Science De>partment of the University of Arizona and is currently an as>sistant professor in the School of International Studies, Uni>versity of Washington.
