At the end of the fifteenth century, in the depths of Russia, a young orphan lives in the forest with his elderly grandfather, the local healer. From him he learns the secrets of herbs and natural remedies before embarking on a long journey across a Europe ravaged by plague. Along the way, he offers his healing powers while crossing a continent ruled by fear, disease, and death.
