Estelle never looks forward to Christmas. Just the thought of her extended family gathered around the traditional meal, asking the same old questions, hearing the usual comments makes her nauseous. So, she usually makes up a good excuse not to be there, not to have to listen to the inevitable judgments, advice and examples of her well-meaning family. Estelle left her family in Paris when she was very young. She discovered she loved women and began living with Vanessa in a small seaside town. Making a living doing odd jobs, Estelle had the time to dream, read, swim and do nothing. But, this year things are different. For the first time, Estelle has begun to have doubts about the choices she made. She feels alone, alone enough that she lacks the energy to avoid her family at Christmas. But how can she share her doubts? Estelle soon discovers that certain childhood wounds have not yet healed and that she must learn to know herself and accept who she is.
