Claire has always had a weakness for divorced men with children and accustomed herself to the role of sweet, self-sacrificing step-mother until one day she has enough. She leaves Paris, quits her job and her lover to spend a few days or a few months vacation on the Atlantic coast of France. There she takes the time to think, open herself to the unknown, write a guide on roundabouts, take long walks and simply live like a school girl who hasn't a worry in the world.
Rose-Marie on the other hand lives sheltered from the world with her horses and memories in a home she built with her now deceased husband. Her mother's recent death, however, has left her with doubts, fresh regret and new desires.
Nicolas relentlessly travels the coast searching for his own mother who abandoned him at birth thirty years before. He posted a small ad in a local newspaper and, with hope in his heart, awaits each day for news, convinced that only when he finds her will he be able to get on with his life.
