This open access book is the first book comprehensively analysing Europe’s engagement with the Indo-Pacific region, a significant development that remains markedly under-explored. Its novel comparative perspective favours a bird’s eye view of Europe’s unfolding “Indo-Pacific pivot”, supported by a relevant methodological and theoretical approach.
The book’s key findings are twofold: i) the first extensive account of Europe’s policies on the Indo-Pacific, comprising both the EU and Europe’s major, middle, and minor powers; and ii) a careful assessment of the resulting implications, including advantages and risks, commonalities and differences, and consequences for cross-regional cooperation.
Readers will benefit from a survey of both the history and future trajectories of Europe’s involvement with the Indo-Pacific, along with innovative accounts of how Europe is approaching this region. As a result, this book is meant for policymakers, diplomats, and international relations professionals, as well as journalists and students interested in the new European pivot to the Indo-Pacific.
