Gioconda Belli nació en Managua, Nicaragua (9 de diciembre de 1948). Es autora de una obra poética de reconocido prestigio, por la que ha recibido el Premio Mariano Fiallos Gil, el Premio Casa de las Américas, el Premio Internacional Generación del 27 y el Premio Internacional Ciudad de Melilla. Su primera novela, La mujer habitada (1988; Seix Barral, 2010), ha sido traducida a catorce idiomas con enorme éxito y ha obtenido el Premio de los Libreros, Bibliotecarios y Editores a la Novela Política del Año y el Premio Anna Seghers de la Academia de las Artes de Alemania. She is the author of a highly acclaimed body of poetry, for which she has received the Mariano Fiallos Gil Prize, the Casa de las Américas Prize, the International Generation of '27 Prize, and the International City of Melilla Prize. Her first novel, La mujer habitada (1988; Seix Barral, 2010), has been translated into fourteen languages with enormous success and has won the Booksellers, Librarians, and Publishers Award for Political Novel of the Year and the Anna Seghers Prize from the Academy of Arts in Germany.
