Portrait

H. P. Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an American writer whose imaginative tales of cosmic horror helped reshape the landscape of modern fantasy and horror literature. Writing primarily for the pulp magazines of the early twentieth century, Lovecraft developed a distinctive mythos in which ancient and unknowable forces lurk beyond human understanding. His stories-including The Call of Cthulhu, At the Mountains of Madness, and The Rats in the Walls-have influenced generations of writers and remain central to the tradition of weird fiction.
