"The War of the Worlds" is a science fiction novel by the English writer Herbert Wells. Written in 1897, it was published in April of the same year in "Pearson's Magazine" and in February 1898 as a separate book.
The novel describes the invasion of extraterrestrial aliens (Martians) on Earth and the futile attempts to resist them, which, however, has an unexpected resolution. The plot of the novel was suggested by the writer's brother - "War of the Worlds" was dedicated to him.
