He worked as a newspaper reporter and editor for twenty-seven years, including stints at the Los Angeles Times, The Oakland Tribune, and the Associated Press and United Press International bureaus in San Francisco. A Massachusetts native, he is a proud graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. He lives on a pond in New Hampshire.
