The pit towns of Northalbion are seething with protest and unrest ... and when townsfolk begin to turn up mauled, locals suspect the murderous and mythical Wolf of Whindale. Caleb, banished for crossing a picket line, is forced to take work with pit owner and antiquarian Mr Siskin, who is in pursuit of an ancient artefact that may have magical properties. But searching for buried treasure in lonely places brings danger when there is a bloodthirsty killer on the loose - whether wolf, man or something else entirely.
