Ha recibido numerosos premios, entre los que cabe destacar el Premio Internazionale Ennio Flaiano, el IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, el Premio Internacional Rómulo Gallegos, el Premio de la Crítica y el Prix Femina Étranger.
