Destacado filósofo y poeta, John O-Donohue nació en el condado de Clare, Irlanda, en 1956, iniciando el noviciado en Maynooth a los 18 años y siendo ordenado sacerdote en 1982. En 1986 se trasladó a la universidad de Tübingen, donde en 1990 se doctoró en teologia filosófica. En su tesis, publicada en alemán en 1993, desarrolla un nuevo concepto de la persona, reinterpretando la filosofia de Hegel. Una vez doctorado regresó a su Irlanda natal para dedicarse a su sacerdocio, a escribir y a profundizar en sus investigaciones históricas sobre el místico del siglo XIII Meister Eckhart. Tiene en su haber numerosos libros de filosofia y dos colecciones de poesía, además de dos best sellers internacionales: Anam Cara y Ecos Eternos. John O-Donohue murió mientras se hallaba de vacaciones en Francia, el 4 de enero de 2008.
