Cine Y Arte

This book brings together information from almost 900 films and television series and about 1,200 characters directly related to the image of the artist in cinema. It deals with the encounter between cinema and the plastic arts, the stories and lives of artists (showing the evolution of this genre) and the artist as a cinematic character from different angles: the artist as creator, their professions, their ages, their personality, their environment (family, models, patrons), society (the public, critics) and the spaces of creation (the workshop, the studio, the museum or the gallery). It concludes with two appendices with the list of films classified according to the importance of the character (main, secondary or anecdotal) and a list of the characters by period. Until now, although there have been scattered works on architects or painters, no book had been published in Spanish that analyzed the figure of the artist in its entirety, covering different periods and approaches (biographical and fictional characters) and all kinds of creators (painters, sculptors, draftsmen or architects, even copyists and restorers). José Manuel Estrada thus provides a title of enormous interest for a specialized reader (art or film experts) but also for a general and massive audience.

JOSÉ MANUEL ESTRADA LORENZO es licenciado en Geografía e Historia por la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y doctor "cum laude" en Historia del Arte por esta misma Universidad con un tesis titulada La imagen del artista en el cine: vitae, mito y perfiles de pintores, escultores y arquitectos, parte de la cual, revisada y actualizada, ha dado pie al presente libro. Ha estudiado además Historia del Cine en la Cátedra de Historia y Estética de la Cinematografía de la Universidad de Valladolid. Trabaja como bibliotecario especializado en ciencias de la salud en un hospital madrileño y ejerce la docencia en temas relacionados con recursos de información (bases de datos, gestores bibliográficos, indicadores bibliométricos, publicación científica, búsquedas bibliográficas, etc.). Ha publicado diferentes trabajos sobre cine, entre ellos, "Bibliografía sobre cine español (1975-1990). Monografías, "Visita al museo imaginario: biografías (cinematográficas) de los más excelentes pintores desde Giotto hasta nuestros días", "La imagen del museo en el cine de ficción", "Representación cinematográfica del consumo de alcohol: del bebedor social al alcohólico culpable" y "Los biopics de científicos: un acercamiento desde el cine a la historia de la ciencia".
