Juan Jacobo Bajarlía was a poet, narrator, teacher, translator, legal advisor, biographer, and playwright. He was one of the pioneers of the avant-garde movement and built a body of work that combines fiction and history. Among his many books are Monteagudo, Cuentos de crimen y misterio, Historias de monstruos, and many others.
