Leslie Charteris (1907-1993) was a British-Chinese novelist and screenwriter best known as the creator of Simon Templar, the adventurous and irreverent crime-fighter known as the Saint. Charteris created Templar while still in his twenties and developed him into one of the twentieth century's most enduring popular-fiction heroes. The Saint appeared in dozens of novels and stories and later became the subject of films, radio dramas, television series, and comics. Charteris's combination of wit, adventure, danger, and an unconventional hero made Simon Templar an internationally recognized character.
