In this new, fast-paced novel, Luis Melgar has drawn on his experience as a diplomat in China to create a gripping, action-packed international thriller and tell a story of identity, desire, and guilt. A glimpse into the 1930s from a city where the monsters that would eventually devour Europe and change the world forever were already present. Shanghai, St. John's Eve, 1935. During the reception at the Spanish consulate, two gunshots interrupt the music, and the enigmatic Prince Volkov falls dead before the guests. There, three young Spaniards find themselves at a crossroads where their lives are about to take an irreversible turn: photographer Isabel de la Cruz, who has been tasked with investigating a German businessman linked to the Nazi Party; Miguel Roxas, heir to the San Miguel brewery, torn between family loyalty and his own conscience; and Asier Ormaetxe, an exiled pelotari who scrapes by as a waiter.

None of them suspects that the murder is only the beginning. Luis Melgar (Madrid, 1980) es diplomàtico español. Entre 2019 y 2026 ha estado destinado en China como consejero de Derechos Humanos en la embajada de España y, màs tarde, en la delegaciÃ3n de la UniÃ3n Europea en PekÃ-n. A lo largo de su carrera tambiÃ(c)n ha desarrollado su labor en Egipto, Guinea Ecuatorial y Venezuela. Su experiencia internacional y el estudio de las culturas que ha conocido han inspirado varias novelas histÃ3ricas publicadas en La Esfera de los Libros, asÃ- como ensayos y obras de autoficciÃ3n en PenÃ-nsula.
