Paul and his railway signal box colleagues have been reduced to little more than button-pressers thanks to fancy new computers and that damned AI. Once a hands-on, bustling job, they now find themselves planted in chairs, feeling older, slower, and noticeably rounder. But when a sharp-tongued young trainee highlights their expanding waistlines and flagging enthusiasm, a bold decision is made—it's time for a change.
Paul's cunning plan, which proves trickier than expected to kick off, is to form a team and join the local six-a-side league. Their debut against the loathsome "No-Hopers" is a proper shambles, but Paul refuses to throw in the towel. He's determined to whip this ragtag bunch into something vaguely resembling footballers, dragging them along with grumbling bellies and creaky knees.
As The FatLadz! lurch forward through dodgy tackles, unexpected injuries, a few off-the-pitch scandals, and even a brush with the Grim Reaper, they begin to discover that maybe, just maybe, there's still life left in these old bones.
